Below is a letter from Joan Wright, NJREA President regarding the NJEA Disaster Relief Fund.

Dear NJREA Family,

Last night’s storm was devastating to many families in our region.  We hope that you and your family are safe and unharmed, but we know that not everyone is.

As you may know, NJEA established a Disaster Relief Fund in the wake of Superstorm Sandy to assist NJEA members who are displaced from their primary residence by storms, fires or other disasters.  The fund will provide a one-time payment of $1,000 to help those members as they begin to recover and rebuild.  This extends to our NJREA membership as well.

If you know of any NJREA members who have been displaced from their homes because of last night’s storm, please contact your count retirees’ president assistance in applying.  They will help forward the names to me.  President Biden pledged to help New York and New Jersey via FEMA in a press conference earlier in the day September 2nd.  We seek to assist our members.

Our union is strong because we are 28,000 members who support each other.  As we begin another challenging year, let’s be sure to reach out and help our colleagues who have been affected.

Most sincerely,

NJREA President
